Bright extragalactic ALMA redshift survey (BEARS) III: detailed study of emission lines from 71 Herschel targets

چکیده

We analyse the molecular and atomic emission lines of 71 bright Herschel-selected galaxies between redshifts 1.4 to 4.6 detected by Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array. These include a total 156 CO, [C I], H2O lines. For 46 galaxies, we detect two transitions CO lines, for these find gas properties similar those other dusty star-forming galaxy (DSFG) samples. A comparison photo-dissociation models suggests that most have interstellar medium conditions as local infrared-luminous high-redshift DSFGs, although with denser more intense far-ultraviolet radiation fields than normal galaxies. The line luminosities agree luminosity scaling relations across five orders magnitude, star-formation surface density distributions (i.e., Schmidt-Kennicutt relation) suggest different phase in our (and DSFGs) compared low-redshift gas-rich, systems. gas-to-dust ratios are Milky Way values, no apparent redshift evolution. Four sources appear excess expected maximum (thermalized) profile, suggesting rare evolution DSFGs. Finally, create deep stacked spectrum over wide rest-frame frequency (220-890 GHz) reveals faint from HCN CH, previous stacking experiments.

Molecular Emission Lines from High Redshift AGNs

A brief overview is given of the current status of molecular emission line observations at high redshift. New observations are presented of CO in the gravitationally lensed quasar MG 0414+0534 (detected) and the unlensed quasar PG 1634+706 (not detected). Also noted are the results of a partially completed search for water maser emission in several redshift bands above z = 0.4.

High Redshift Quasars , Emission Lines and ‘ Cloudy ’

I describe some of the outstanding “big picture” questions in quasar research and how the development of the plasma simulation code Cloudy is being guided to answer them. QSO spectra are complex and challenge even the most sophisticated spectral codes. Particular emphasis is given to a central question – how do the properties of the central black hole and the accretion disk are manifested in th...

A Statistical Study of Emission Lines from High Redshift Radio Galaxies ⋆

Abstract. We have compiled a sample of 165 radio galaxies from the literature to study the properties of the extended emission line regions and their interaction with the radio source over a large range of redshift 0 < z < 5.2. For each source, we have collected radio (size, lobe distance ratio and power) and spectroscopic parameters (luminosity, line width and equivalent width) for the four br...

An ALMA survey of Sub - millimetre Galaxies in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South : Detection of [ C ii

We present ALMA 870-μm (345GHz) observations of two sub-millimetre galaxies (SMGs) drawn from an ALMA study of the 126 sub-millimeter sources from the LABOCA Extended Chandra Deep Field South Survey (LESS). The ALMA data identify the counterparts to these previously unidentified sub-millimeter sources and serendipitously detect bright emission lines in their spectra which we show are most likel...

The redshift of extragalactic nebulae

The important, lasting result of Fritz Zwicky’s early paper on extragalactic astrophysics, which is not mentioned in the abstract, is his conclusion, derived in Sect. 5, that the universe contains much more dark than luminous matter. This result is embedded in a review of what was known about “nebulae” and their redshift in 1933. The first methods to determine distances of galaxies and their di...
